Cap'n Crunch

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

(Redirected from Jean LaFoote)

Cap'n Crunch is a product line of corn and oat breakfast cereals introduced in 1963 and manufactured by Quaker Oats Company, a division of PepsiCo since 2001.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The product line is named after its mascot, Cap'n Crunch, a late 18th-century naval captain, whose full name is Horatio Magellan Crunch. The character was developed by Jay Ward and designed by Allan Burns.

History[edit | edit source]

Cap'n Crunch was developed to recall a recipe with brown sugar and butter over rice, and the cereal required innovation of a special baking process as it was one of the first cereals to use an oil coating for flavor delivery.

Varieties[edit | edit source]

Over the years, Cap'n Crunch's product line has expanded to include a number of spin-off cereals such as Cap'n Crunch's Crunch Berries, Peanut Butter Crunch, and Cap'n Crunch's Oops! All Berries.

Mascot[edit | edit source]

The Cap'n Crunch mascot is depicted as a late 18th-century naval captain, an elder man with white eyebrows and a white moustache, who wears a Revolutionary-style naval uniform.

Controversies[edit | edit source]

In the past, Cap'n Crunch has been criticized for its high sugar content and its lack of nutritional value.

In popular culture[edit | edit source]

Cap'n Crunch has been referenced in various media, including television shows and films.
