Jeffrey Koplan was born in 1945. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Yale University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He then attended the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, obtaining his medical degree. Furthering his education, Koplan completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Koplan's career in public health began at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where he joined the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) in 1972. His work at the CDC spanned several decades, during which he held various leadership roles.

Director of the CDC[edit | edit source]

In 1998, Jeffrey Koplan was appointed as the Director of the CDC, a position he held until 2002. During his tenure, he focused on addressing major public health challenges, including the prevention and control of infectious diseases, chronic disease prevention, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
