Jian Liu is a distinguished academic and researcher in the field of pharmacology. He is best known for his significant contributions to the understanding of heparin, a widely used anticoagulant.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Jian Liu was born and raised in China. He completed his undergraduate studies in Chemistry at Nankai University in Tianjin, China. He then moved to the United States for his graduate studies, where he earned his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Utah.
Career[edit | edit source]

McNeill, Jr. Distinguished Professor in the Eshelman School of Pharmacy. His research focuses on the biosynthesis of heparin, a critical drug that prevents and treats blood clots.
Research[edit | edit source]
Liu's research has significantly advanced the understanding of heparin's structure and function. His work has led to the development of a new method for producing heparin in the lab, which could potentially lead to safer and more effective treatments for a variety of conditions, including heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]
In recognition of his contributions to the field of pharmacology, Liu has received numerous awards and honors. These include the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists' (AAPS) Research Achievement Award in Biotechnology, and the American Chemical Society's Horace S. Isbell Award.
