Joseph Christian Chestnut (born November 25, 1983) is an American competitive eater. He gained worldwide fame for his success in various eating competitions, particularly the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest held on July 4th in Coney Island, New York.
Early Life and Career[edit | edit source]
Chestnut was born on November 25, 1983, in Vallejo, California. He developed an interest in competitive eating at a young age and began participating in local eating contests during his college years. In 2005, he made his professional eating debut at the Deep-Fried Asparagus Eating Championship in Stockton, California, where he consumed 6.3 pounds of asparagus in 11.5 minutes, setting a new world record.
Competitive Eating Career[edit | edit source]
Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest[edit | edit source]
Chestnut's most notable achievement is his dominance in the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. He first competed in the contest in 2005 and shocked the world by consuming 32 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes, breaking the previous record of 25. Since then, he has won the contest a record-breaking 13 times, with his most recent victory in 2020, where he consumed a staggering 75 hot dogs and buns.
