John Boot (1815 – 1860) was a British pharmacist and the founder of Boots UK, a leading pharmacy chain in the United Kingdom.

John Boot was born in 1815 in Nottingham, England. He was the son of a farmer and was educated in the local schools. He developed an interest in pharmacy at a young age and decided to pursue it as a career.

In 1849, John Boot opened his first store, 'Boot and Company', in Goose Gate, Nottingham. The store sold a variety of herbal remedies and other health-related products. Despite the initial struggles, the business gradually grew and became popular among the local community for its affordable prices and quality products.

In 1859, John Boot changed the name of his store to 'Boots Pure Drug Company'. He aimed to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the working class. His commitment to affordable healthcare played a significant role in shaping the future of the pharmacy industry in the United Kingdom.

John Boot's vision and dedication led to the establishment of one of the largest pharmacy chains in the United Kingdom, Boots UK. Today, Boots UK operates over 2,500 stores across the UK and Ireland, offering a wide range of health and beauty products.

John Boot's contribution to the pharmacy industry has been recognized by various institutions. In 2003, he was inducted into the National Business Hall of Fame for his significant contributions to the British economy.
