His work in the FBI Behavioral Science Unit has been foundational in the development of modern criminal profiling. Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Career[edit | edit source]
Douglas joined the FBI in 1970 and initially served as a sniper in the SWAT team before moving to the Behavioral Science Unit (BSU), now known as the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), in 1977. This work laid the groundwork for modern criminal profiling.
Douglas developed profiles for several high-profile cases, including the Atlanta Child Murders, the Green River Killer, and the BTK Killer. His ability to enter the minds of criminals and his detailed profiling techniques have helped solve numerous cases.
After retiring from the FBI in 1995, Douglas has continued to write and lecture on criminal psychology, profiling, and criminal justice. He has served as a consultant on various criminal cases and has been a subject matter expert for documentaries and television series.
