John McGinness
American law enforcement officer and media personality
John McGinness is an American law enforcement officer and media personality. He is best known for his tenure as the Sheriff of Sacramento County, a position he held from 2006 to 2010. McGinness has also gained recognition as a radio host and commentator on public safety and law enforcement issues.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
John McGinness was born and raised in Sacramento, California. He attended local schools and later pursued higher education at California State University, Sacramento, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice. McGinness furthered his education by obtaining a master's degree in Emergency Services Administration from California State University, Long Beach.
Law Enforcement Career[edit | edit source]
McGinness began his career in law enforcement with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department in the early 1980s. Over the years, he held various positions within the department, including patrol officer, detective, and supervisor. His dedication and leadership skills led to his promotion to the rank of Undersheriff.
In 2006, McGinness was elected as the Sheriff of Sacramento County. During his tenure, he focused on improving community relations, enhancing public safety, and implementing innovative crime prevention strategies. He served as sheriff until his retirement in 2010.

After retiring from law enforcement, McGinness transitioned to a career in media. He became a radio host on KFBK (AM), a prominent news and talk radio station in Sacramento. On his show, McGinness discusses a wide range of topics, including public safety, law enforcement, and current events. His insights and expertise have made him a respected voice in the community.
