Jon Stryker

  • Jon Lloyd Stryker (about 1958) is an architect, philanthropist, and billionaire heir to the Stryker Corporation medical technology company fortune.
  • He is the grandson of Homer Stryker, the founder of the Stryker Corporation, and the son of John and Pat Stryker.

Childhood[edit | edit source]

Stryker attended Kalamazoo College before receiving his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. He afterwards became an architect in San Francisco, California.

Career in architecture[edit | edit source]

In addition to his architectural career, Stryker is well-known for his humanitarian work, especially in the fields of LGBT rights and conservation. He is the founder and president of the Arcus Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes LGBT rights and great ape conservation.

Arcus foundation[edit | edit source]

The Arcus Foundation has awarded more than $300 million in grants to organizations focusing on LGBT rights, conservation of great apes, and social justice. This organization also funds research, activism, and public education to increase awareness of the significance of these issues.

In addition to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, the Kalamazoo Nature Center, and the Greater Kalamazoo United Way, Stryker is a member of several other charitable organizations.

In 2011, Out magazine ranked Stryker among the "50 most powerful homosexual men and women in America."

Buildings[edit | edit source]

Stryker has constructed numerous structures in the Kalamazoo region as an architect, including the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership at Kalamazoo College and the Stryker Center for Civic Engagement at Western Michigan University.

Forbes ranked Stryker as the 814th wealthiest individual in the world in 2021, based on his net worth of $1.4 billion.
