Jonny Kim is an American physician, Navy SEAL, and NASA astronaut of Korean descent. Born on February 5, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, Kim has achieved a rare trifecta of accomplishments in medicine, military service, and space exploration, making him a notable figure in multiple fields.

He earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of San Diego and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Harvard Medical School. Kim chose to specialize in emergency medicine, completing his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

In June 2017, Kim's diverse skill set and exceptional background led to his selection as a member of NASA's Astronaut Group 22. His selection was notable for his unique combination of experiences in medicine, military service, and now space exploration. As an astronaut candidate, Kim underwent two years of training, which included Russian language study, spacewalk training, robotics, T-38 jet training, and wilderness survival training.
