Jordi Turull i Negre (born 6 September 1966) is a Spanish politician from Catalonia. He is a member of the Together for Catalonia political party and has previously been associated with the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC). Turull has held various political offices, including the Minister of the Presidency and Spokesperson of the Government of Catalonia.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Jordi Turull was born on 6 September 1966 in Parets del Vallès, a municipality in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia. He studied law at the University of Barcelona, where he earned his degree.

Political Career[edit | edit source]

Turull began his political career with the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC), a center-right political party in Catalonia. He was elected to the Parliament of Catalonia and served as a member of the Catalan Parliament for several terms.

Minister of the Presidency[edit | edit source]

On 14 July 2017, Turull was appointed as the Minister of the Presidency of Catalonia by President Carles Puigdemont. In this role, he was responsible for coordinating the activities of the Catalan government and acting as its spokesperson. His term ended on 27 October 2017, following the 2017 Catalan independence referendum and the subsequent imposition of direct rule by the Spanish government.

Imprisonment[edit | edit source]

Following the 2017 Catalan independence referendum, Turull was arrested and imprisoned by the Spanish authorities on charges related to the organization of the referendum, which had been declared illegal by the Constitutional Court of Spain. He was one of several Catalan leaders who faced legal action for their roles in the independence movement.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Jordi Turull is married and has two children. He continues to be an active figure in Catalan politics and a vocal advocate for Catalan independence.
