Joseph Frank Payne

Joseph Frank Payne (5 January 1840 – 14 November 1910) was a prominent English physician and medical historian known for his contributions to the study of infectious diseases and his extensive work in medical history. He was a key figure in the development of medical education in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Joseph Frank Payne was born in London, England. He was the son of Joseph Payne, a well-known educationalist. Payne was educated at University College School and later attended Magdalen College, Oxford, where he excelled in the classics and natural sciences. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1862 and subsequently pursued medical studies at St George's Hospital, London.

Payne became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1869 and was elected a fellow in 1875. He held various positions at St George's Hospital, including that of a physician and lecturer.
