From WikiMD's Wellnesspedia

Joseph Salim Peress (1927-2018) was a British marine engineer and inventor known for his significant contributions to the development of deep-sea diving technology.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Joseph Salim Peress was born in 1927 in London, England. He attended the University of London, where he studied mechanical engineering.

Career[edit | edit source]

After graduating, Peress began his career as a marine engineer. He is best known for his work on the development of the diving bell, a type of diving equipment that allows divers to descend to great depths underwater.

In 1962, Peress invented the JIM suit, a type of atmospheric diving suit that allows divers to work at depths of up to 500 meters without the need for decompression. The JIM suit was named after Jim Jarrett, the first diver to test the suit.

Peress also developed the WASP suit, a similar type of diving suit that allows divers to work at even greater depths. The WASP suit was used in a number of high-profile deep-sea diving missions, including the recovery of the Titanic's black box in 1985.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Peress's inventions have had a significant impact on the field of deep-sea diving. His work has made it possible for divers to work at depths that were previously unreachable, and his inventions continue to be used in deep-sea diving missions today.
