Tetrick is known for his work in the food technology industry, particularly in the development of plant-based egg substitutes and cultured meat products.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Joshua Tetrick was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended West Virginia University, where he played football. Tetrick later transferred to Cornell University, where he earned a degree in Africana Studies. He went on to study law at the University of Michigan Law School.

Career[edit | edit source]

Early career[edit | edit source]

Before founding Eat Just, Inc., Tetrick worked in various roles that focused on social impact and sustainability. He worked for the Clinton Foundation in Nigeria and South Africa, focusing on economic development projects. Tetrick also worked for the United Nations and the International Finance Corporation, where he was involved in projects aimed at improving access to education and healthcare in developing countries.

Eat Just, Inc.[edit | edit source]

In 2011, Tetrick co-founded Eat Just, Inc. (formerly known as Hampton Creek) with the mission to create healthier and more sustainable food products. The company's flagship product, Just Egg, is a plant-based egg substitute made from mung beans. Just Egg has gained popularity as a vegan alternative to traditional eggs, offering similar taste and texture without the environmental impact associated with egg production.

Under Tetrick's leadership, Eat Just, Inc. has expanded its product line to include other plant-based foods and has ventured into the field of cultured meat. The company made headlines in 2020 when it received regulatory approval to sell its cultured chicken product in Singapore, marking the first time cultured meat was approved for sale to consumers.

Philosophy and impact[edit | edit source]

Tetrick is a proponent of using technology and innovation to address global food challenges. He believes that plant-based and cultured meat products can play a significant role in reducing the environmental impact of food production and improving food security. Tetrick's work has been recognized for its potential to transform the food industry and contribute to a more sustainable future.
