Following his assignment in Albuera, Espenido was transferred to Ozamiz City in Misamis Occidental. In July 2017, he led an operation that resulted in the death of Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog and several others. Parojinog was also accused of being involved in the drug trade. This operation further solidified Espenido's reputation as a key figure in the Duterte administration's anti-drug campaign.
