Judgment

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Judgment or judgement refers to the evaluation of evidence to make a decision. The term has four distinct uses:

  1. Informal – opinions expressed as facts.
  2. Informal and psychological – used in reference to the quality of cognitive faculties and adjudicational capabilities of particular individuals, typically called wisdom or discernment.
  3. Legal – used in the context of legal trial, to refer to a final finding, statement, or ruling, based on a considered weighing of evidence, called "adjudication". See spelling note for further explanation.
  4. Religious – used in the concept of salvation to refer to the adjudication of God in determining Heaven or Hell for each and all human beings. God's assessment of a person's worth: a determination of "good" connotes Heaven; "evil" connotes Hell.

Informal Judgment[edit | edit source]

Informal judgment is a decision made based on the available facts and information. It is often used in everyday life and can be based on a variety of factors, including personal experiences, observations, and beliefs.

Psychological Judgment[edit | edit source]

Psychological judgment refers to the cognitive processes used to form evaluations and make decisions. It involves the use of mental faculties to assess and interpret information, often in the context of problem-solving or decision-making.

Legal Judgment[edit | edit source]

In a legal context, judgment refers to the final decision or ruling in a court case. This is typically the result of a careful evaluation of the evidence presented during the trial. The judgment may include a determination of guilt or innocence, as well as the imposition of a sentence or penalty.

Religious Judgment[edit | edit source]

Religious judgment refers to the concept of divine adjudication, in which a deity or higher power determines the fate of human beings. This is often associated with concepts of salvation, heaven, and hell, and is a central theme in many religious traditions.
