Julie Menin is an American attorney, civil servant, non-profit executive, professor, and small business owner. She currently serves as a member of the New York City Council representing the 5th District, which includes the Upper East Side, Roosevelt Island, and parts of East Harlem.

Julie Menin was born and raised in New York City. She attended Columbia University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. She later received her Juris Doctor from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law.

Menin began her career as an attorney, working at several law firms before founding her own firm. She specialized in regulatory law and litigation.

Public Service[edit | edit source]

In 2014, Menin was appointed Commissioner of the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs by Mayor Bill de Blasio. During her tenure, she focused on consumer protection and financial empowerment initiatives.

In 2016, Menin was appointed Commissioner of the New York City Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment. In this role, she worked to promote the city's media and entertainment industries, including film, television, theater, music, and digital content.

In 2021, Menin was elected to the New York City Council representing the 5th District. She took office on January 1, 2022, succeeding Ben Kallos. As a council member, she has focused on issues such as affordable housing, education, and public safety.

Menin is married and has children. She is also a small business owner and has been involved in various non-profit organizations throughout her career.
