K&W Cafeterias
K&W Cafeterias is a chain of cafeteria-style restaurants headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The chain was founded in 1937 by Grady T. Allred, Sr., and the name "K&W" is derived from the original co-founders, Grady T. Allred and T. Mickey Wilson.
History[edit | edit source]
The first K&W Cafeteria was opened in 1937 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The restaurant was initially a Carolina-style barbecue stand, but it quickly evolved into a full-service cafeteria. The chain expanded throughout the Southeastern United States, and by the 1980s, K&W Cafeterias had become a staple in many communities.
Menu[edit | edit source]
K&W Cafeterias offer a wide variety of dishes, including Southern-style comfort foods, fresh vegetables, and homemade desserts. The menu changes daily, but some popular items include fried chicken, meatloaf, and macaroni and cheese.
Business Model[edit | edit source]
K&W Cafeterias operates on a cafeteria-style business model. Customers select their food items from a buffet-style line and pay for their meal at the end of the line. This model allows for a high volume of customers and quick turnover, which is essential for the restaurant's success.
Locations[edit | edit source]
As of 2021, K&W Cafeterias operates 18 locations across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. The majority of these locations are in North Carolina, with a significant presence in the Piedmont Triad and Research Triangle regions.
