Kalamazoo is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Kalamazoo County. It is located in the southwest region of the state, approximately halfway between the cities of Chicago and Detroit. The city has a rich history and a diverse economy, with significant contributions to the fields of education, healthcare, and the arts.

Kalamazoo was originally inhabited by the Potawatomi and Ojibwe tribes. The city's name is believed to derive from a Potawatomi word, though its exact meaning is uncertain. European settlement began in the early 19th century, and the city was incorporated in 1884.
