Kank-A

Kank-A is an over-the-counter medication primarily used to treat minor discomfort and protect against gastrointestinal ulcers in the mouth and throat. It is a brand name for the active ingredient benzocaine, a local anesthetic.

Composition

Kank-A is composed of the active ingredient benzocaine, which is a local anesthetic. It works by blocking nerve signals in the body, thereby reducing pain or discomfort caused by minor skin irritations, sore throat, sunburn, teething pain, vaginal or rectal irritation, ingrown toenails, hemorrhoids, and many other sources of minor pain on a surface of the body. Benzocaine is also used to numb the skin or surfaces inside the mouth, nose, throat, vagina, or rectum to lessen the pain of inserting a medical instrument such as a tube or speculum.

Indications

Kank-A is indicated for the temporary relief of pain associated with minor mouth and gum irritations. The product is also used for occasional minor irritation, pain, sore mouth and sore throat, as well as pain associated with canker sores, dentures or orthodontic appliances.

Usage

Kank-A is intended for use in the mouth. It is typically applied as a liquid, gel, or lozenge. The medication should not be used for more than seven days unless directed by a healthcare professional. If symptoms do not improve after seven days, or if they worsen, the user should contact a healthcare professional.

Side Effects

While most people can use Kank-A without experiencing side effects, some may occur. These can include a rash, itching, redness, or other irritation where the product was applied. If these side effects persist or worsen, the user should contact a healthcare professional. In rare cases, benzocaine can cause a serious, potentially fatal condition called methemoglobinemia, particularly in children under two years of age.
