Kappa Epsilon (ΚΕ) is a professional pharmacy fraternity that was founded to promote the profession of pharmacy among women. It was established in 1921 at the University of Iowa and has since grown to include numerous chapters across the United States.

History[edit | edit source]

Kappa Epsilon was founded on May 13, 1921, by Zada M. Cooper and a group of women who were dedicated to advancing the role of women in the field of pharmacy. At the time, women were underrepresented in the profession, and Kappa Epsilon provided a platform for women to support each other and advocate for their place in the field.

Mission and Objectives[edit | edit source]

The mission of Kappa Epsilon is to unite women pharmacy students and pharmacists, to promote the profession of pharmacy, and to foster professional and personal development. The fraternity aims to:

  • Encourage women to pursue careers in pharmacy.
  • Provide educational programs and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Support community service initiatives.
  • Foster a sense of community and networking among members.

Membership[edit | edit source]

Membership in Kappa Epsilon is open to both men and women, although it was originally founded as a women's fraternity. Members are typically pharmacy students or professionals who are committed to the goals and values of the fraternity. Membership provides opportunities for leadership development, networking, and community service.

Programs and Activities[edit | edit source]

Kappa Epsilon offers a variety of programs and activities designed to support its members and the community. These include:

  • Educational Workshops: Providing members with the latest information and skills in the field of pharmacy.
  • Community Service Projects: Engaging in activities that benefit the local community and promote health awareness.
  • Networking Events: Facilitating connections between members and professionals in the pharmacy industry.
  • Leadership Development: Offering training and opportunities for members to develop leadership skills.

Chapters[edit | edit source]

Kappa Epsilon has numerous chapters located at colleges and universities across the United States. Each chapter is responsible for organizing local events and activities that align with the national mission of the fraternity. Chapters also participate in national conventions and events, providing members with opportunities to connect with peers from other institutions.

National Conventions[edit | edit source]

Kappa Epsilon holds national conventions every two years, bringing together members from all chapters to discuss the fraternity's direction, share ideas, and celebrate achievements. These conventions include workshops, keynote speakers, and networking opportunities.
