History[edit | edit source]
The history of the Karen people dates back to the Bronze Age. They are believed to have migrated from Tibet and China around 2000 years ago. The Karen people have a rich oral tradition, with many of their historical events and cultural practices passed down through generations via storytelling.
In the 19th century, the Karen people came under the rule of the British Empire when Myanmar (then known as Burma) was colonized. This period had a significant impact on the Karen people, influencing their culture, religion, and socio-political status.

The culture of the Karen people is diverse and complex, influenced by their geographical location, historical events, and interactions with other ethnic groups. They have their own language, known as Karen, which has several dialects.
The Karen people are known for their traditional weaving and handicrafts, which are integral parts of their cultural identity. They also have unique music and dance forms, which are often performed during festivals and celebrations.
