Character History[edit | edit source]
Karla Sofen first appeared in Captain America #192, created by writer Steve Englehart and artist Sal Buscema. Initially introduced as a psychiatrist, Sofen's character quickly evolved into a more sinister role as she manipulated her patients for personal gain. Her transformation into Moonstone occurred when she acquired a powerful alien gem, granting her superhuman abilities.

Karla Sofen was born in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California. She was the daughter of a butler and a maid, which instilled in her a desire to rise above her humble beginnings. She pursued a career in psychiatry, using her skills to manipulate others to achieve her goals.
Becoming Moonstone[edit | edit source]
Sofen's life changed dramatically when she encountered Lloyd Bloch, the original Moonstone. She manipulated Bloch into giving up the alien gem that granted him his powers, thus becoming the new Moonstone. This gem bonded with her, enhancing her physical abilities and granting her new powers such as flight, intangibility, and energy projection.
