Karni Liddell

Karni Liddell was born on March 1, 1979, in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia. Diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, a neuromuscular disease, she was not expected to live past her teenage years. Despite this prognosis, Liddell's determination and resilience led her to pursue a career in swimming.
Swimming Career[edit | edit source]
Karni Liddell began swimming at a young age as part of her therapy. She quickly excelled in the sport, becoming a competitive swimmer. Liddell represented Australia at the Paralympic Games, competing in the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Games. She won a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle at the 1996 Games and a silver medal in the 4x50m medley relay at the 2000 Games.

Liddell set several world records during her swimming career. She was also a member of the Australian Paralympic swim team that won multiple medals at international competitions.
