Karori Lunatic Asylum was a psychiatric hospital located in Karori, New Zealand. Established in 1854, it was the country's first asylum. The facility was poorly run by untrained staff, with only occasional doctor's visits and no attempts at cures. By 1871, there were 23 patients with various disorders. In 1873, the asylum closed and the patients were transferred to Mount View Lunatic Asylum. The grounds of the asylum later became the site of Karori School in 1875.
