Kashan

Kashan is a city in the Isfahan province of Iran. It is known for its historical houses and traditional Persian architecture. The city's name originates from the Kasian, the original inhabitants of the city, whose remains are found at Tapeh Sialk dating back 9,000 years.

Kashan is believed to be one of the primary centers of civilization in prehistoric ages. The city was developed during the Sasanian Empire and was a favorite vacation spot for Safavid Kings. Kashan is internationally famous for manufacturing carpets, silk and other textiles.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Kashan is located in the north of the province of Isfahan, and is to the south of Qom. To the west of Kashan is the city of Aran va Bidgol.

Climate[edit | edit source]

The city has a desert climate with low annual rainfall due to remoteness from the sea and being in the vicinity of the Kavir Desert.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Kashan is largely based on carpet weaving, ceramics, textiles, and copper mining.

Notable Landmarks[edit | edit source]

Some of the most notable landmarks in Kashan are Fin Garden, Tabatabaei House, Borujerdi House, and Sultan Amir Ahmad Bathhouse.
