Katakwi General Hospital

Katakwi General Hospital is a public hospital located in Katakwi District, in the Eastern Region of Uganda. It is one of the national referral hospitals in the country, serving the population of Katakwi and surrounding districts.

The hospital is located in the town of Katakwi, approximately 59 kilometers, by road, northwest of Soroti, the largest city in the sub-region. This location lies approximately 331 kilometers, by road, northeast of Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the largest city in the country.

Katakwi General Hospital is a public hospital, funded by the Uganda Ministry of Health and general care in the hospital is free. It is one of the 13 Regional Referral Hospitals in Uganda, which form the backbone of the country's healthcare infrastructure. The hospital provides general medical services, maternity care, surgery, and emergency medical services among others.

The hospital was established to provide medical services to the population in Katakwi district and its neighboring districts. Over the years, it has grown in capacity and infrastructure, serving a larger population and offering a wider range of medical services.

Services[edit | edit source]

The hospital offers a range of services including outpatient services, inpatient services, maternal and child health services, surgery, laboratory services, and HIV/AIDS testing and treatment. It also serves as a training and research center for medical students and professionals.
