King Soopers is a supermarket chain based in Denver, Colorado, and is a subsidiary of The Kroger Co., one of the largest retail companies in the United States. Founded in 1947 by Lloyd J. King, King Soopers has grown to become one of the leading grocery retailers in the region.

King Soopers was established in 1947 when Lloyd J. King opened the first store in Arvada, Colorado. The store quickly gained popularity for its wide selection of products and competitive prices. Over the years, King Soopers expanded its operations and opened multiple locations across Colorado.

In 1957, King Soopers merged with Dillon Companies, Inc., a Kansas-based grocery chain. This merger allowed King Soopers to further expand its presence in the region and introduce new innovations in the grocery industry.

In 1983, Dillon Companies, Inc. was acquired by The Kroger Co., a leading retail company based in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a result of this acquisition, King Soopers became a subsidiary of The Kroger Co. and continued to operate under its own brand name.
