Kitgum Hospital

Kitgum Hospital is a government-owned hospital located in the town of Kitgum, in the Kitgum District, Northern Region of Uganda. It is the main referral hospital for the district and surrounding areas.

The hospital is located in the central part of Kitgum, approximately 454 kilometers, by road, north of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda. The geographical coordinates of Kitgum Hospital are: 3°17'33.0"N, 32°52'57.0"E.

Kitgum Hospital is a public hospital, funded by the Ministry of Health of Uganda and general care in the hospital is free. It is one of the 13 Regional Referral Hospitals in Uganda, which form the backbone of the country's healthcare infrastructure. The hospital is administered by the Uganda Ministry of Health.

The hospital offers a range of services including general medicine, surgery, maternity care, pediatrics, and HIV/AIDS treatment. It also serves as a training and research center for health professionals.

Kitgum Hospital was established in the 1960s, shortly after Uganda's independence. Over the years, it has grown and expanded its services to meet the healthcare needs of the growing population in the Kitgum District and surrounding areas.

Challenges[edit | edit source]

Like many public hospitals in Uganda, Kitgum Hospital faces a number of challenges. These include inadequate funding, shortage of medical supplies, and a high patient load. Despite these challenges, the hospital continues to provide essential healthcare services to the population.
