Kitsap County, Washington
Kitsap County, Washington is a county located in the U.S. state of Washington. As part of the Seattle metropolitan area, it is situated on the Kitsap Peninsula between the Puget Sound and the Hood Canal. The county seat is Port Orchard, and its largest city is Bremerton. Kitsap County is known for its significant United States Navy presence, with the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Naval Base Kitsap being major employers in the region.

Kitsap County was formed out of King and Jefferson Counties on January 16, 1857, and was originally named Slaughter County after Lieutenant William Alloway Slaughter, who was killed in the Indian Wars. The name was changed to Kitsap County shortly thereafter, in honor of Chief Kitsap of the Suquamish Tribe. The county has a rich history, with the Suquamish and other Native American tribes being the first inhabitants of the area. The arrival of European settlers in the 19th century marked the beginning of significant changes in the region, including the establishment of military installations and the growth of maritime industries.

Kitsap County encompasses a total area of 566 square miles, of which 395 square miles is land and 171 square miles (30.2%) is water. The county also has a sizable Hispanic or Latino population.

Kitsap County operates under a commissioner-manager form of government.
