Knorr

Knorr is a German food and beverage brand. It has been owned by the British-Dutch company Unilever since 2000, when Unilever acquired Best Foods, excluding Japan, where it is made under licence by Ajinomoto. It produces dehydrated soup and meal mixes, bouillon cubes and condiments.

Knorr was founded in 1838 by Carl Heinrich Theodor Knorr. Knorr's products were originally developed in an attempt to improve the nutritional content of meals for the German army. He began experimenting with drying vegetables and seasonings, to preserve nutrition and flavor, leading, in 1873, to the launch of the first Knorr dried soups across Continental Europe.

In 1912 the first Knorr bouillon cube was launched. In 1957, flagship Knorr brands like bouillon and soups were sold in 8 countries and by the 1960s and 1970s, Knorr was sold in nearly 70 countries around the world.

In 1958, Knorr launched the "Cook-in-Bag" product range for meat.

In 1988, Knorr introduced the "Erbswurst", or pea sausage, a traditional German peasant food; pea soup was easily made by boiling the sausage in water. In 2018, Unilever decided to stop producing the sausage due to decreasing sales.

Knorr's product range includes dehydrated soup and meal mixes, bouillon cubes and condiments. It also includes frozen and ready meals in some countries.
