Knute Carl Buehler (born August 1, 1964) is an American physician and politician. He is known for his work as an orthopedic surgeon and his involvement in Oregon politics. Buehler has been a member of the Republican Party and has run for several political offices in Oregon.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Knute Buehler was born in Roseburg, Oregon. He grew up in a working-class family and attended local schools. Buehler excelled academically and went on to attend Oregon State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology. He was a member of the university's baseball team and was recognized for his leadership skills.

After completing his undergraduate studies, Buehler was awarded a prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, which allowed him to study at the University of Oxford in England. At Oxford, he earned a Master of Arts degree in Politics and Economics. Following his time in the United Kingdom, Buehler returned to the United States to pursue a medical degree at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Buehler completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. He specialized in sports medicine and joint replacement surgery. Buehler has been recognized for his contributions to the field of orthopedics and has published several research papers on surgical techniques and patient outcomes.

In addition to his clinical work, Buehler has been involved in medical education and has served as a mentor to medical students and residents. He has been an advocate for healthcare reform and has worked to improve access to medical services in rural areas of Oregon.

Political career[edit | edit source]

Buehler's political career began when he ran for the office of Oregon Secretary of State in 2012. Although he was not elected, his campaign brought attention to issues such as government transparency and electoral reform. In 2014, Buehler was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives, representing the 54th district, which includes parts of Bend.

During his time in the Oregon House, Buehler focused on healthcare policy, education reform, and economic development. He was known for his bipartisan approach and worked with members of both parties to pass legislation aimed at improving the lives of Oregonians.

In 2018, Buehler ran for Governor of Oregon as the Republican nominee. His campaign emphasized fiscal responsibility, education reform, and public safety. Although he was not elected, Buehler's candidacy highlighted the challenges facing the state and the need for innovative solutions.

Knute Buehler is married and has two children. He is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hiking, skiing, and fishing in the natural landscapes of Oregon. Buehler is also involved in various community organizations and charitable activities.
