Koda Farms
Koda Farms is a family-owned farming business located in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. Established in 1928 by Keisaburo Koda, it is recognized as the oldest family-owned and operated rice farm in California. Koda Farms specializes in the production of premium quality rice and rice products, particularly Kokuho Rose rice and organic sweet rice.
History[edit | edit source]
Keisaburo Koda, a first-generation immigrant from Japan, founded Koda Farms in 1928. Despite the challenges of the Great Depression and the forced internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II, Koda Farms managed to survive and thrive. After the war, Keisaburo's sons, Edward and William Koda, took over the farm's operations and expanded its product line.
Products[edit | edit source]
Koda Farms is renowned for its Kokuho Rose rice, a proprietary variety of medium-grain rice. The farm also produces organic sweet rice, a type of glutinous rice used in various Asian cuisines. Other products include milled and brown rice, rice flour, and rice cereal.
Farming Practices[edit | edit source]
Koda Farms adheres to sustainable farming practices. The farm is certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) and follows strict guidelines to ensure the quality and safety of its products. The farm uses a system of crop rotation and cover cropping to maintain soil health and fertility.
Recognition[edit | edit source]
Koda Farms has received numerous awards and recognition for its commitment to quality and sustainability. It was the first farm in the United States to grow organic sweet rice and has been recognized by the Slow Food movement for its dedication to preserving traditional farming methods.
