Kotzebue, AK

  • Kotzebue is a city located in the Northwest Arctic Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. It is the borough's seat, by far its largest community and the economic and transportation hub of the subregion. The city is situated on a gravel spit at the end of the Baldwin Peninsula in the Kotzebue Sound. It is 33 miles north of the Arctic Circle on Alaska's western coast.
  • Kotzebue is a gateway to the Kobuk Valley National Park and other natural attractions of northern Alaska. The city is known for its rich Inupiaq culture, dramatic Arctic scenery, and the Kotzebue Sound, which is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and bird-watching.

Healthcare Facilities[edit | edit source]

  • Kotzebue is home to the Maniilaq Health Center, which is the primary healthcare facility for residents of the Northwest Arctic Borough. The health center is operated by the Maniilaq Association, a tribal organization that provides health, social, and tribal services to residents of the region. The Maniilaq Health Center offers a range of services including primary care, dental care, behavioral health services, and emergency care.
  • Another notable healthcare facility in the city is the Alaska Native Medical Center. Although it is located in Anchorage, it serves as a referral center for many residents of Kotzebue and other rural areas of Alaska. The center provides comprehensive medical services and also operates a Level II Trauma Center.
