Kretzschmariella

Kretzschmariella is a genus of fungi within the family Xylariaceae. This genus is known for its species that are pathogenic to plants, causing various diseases. The genus was first described by the German mycologist Heinrich Rehm in 1896.

Taxonomy[edit | edit source]

The genus Kretzschmariella belongs to the family Xylariaceae, order Xylariales, class Sordariomycetes, division Ascomycota, and kingdom Fungi. The genus was named in honor of the German mycologist Johann Friedrich Kretzschmar.

Description[edit | edit source]

Species within the Kretzschmariella genus are characterized by their dark, carbonaceous, and perithecial ascomata. They have a unilocular or multilocular stroma, and their asci are cylindrical, with a short stipe and a small, inamyloid apical ring. The ascospores are brown, ellipsoid to fusoid, and have a germ slit.
