KLK was founded in 1906 as a rubber plantation company. Over the years, it has diversified into other sectors, including manufacturing and property development. The company has a significant presence in Malaysia and other countries, including Indonesia, Liberia, and China.

KLK's primary business is in the plantation sector, where it cultivates oil palm, rubber, and cocoa. The company is one of the largest producers of palm oil in Malaysia. In addition to plantation, KLK is also involved in the manufacturing of oleochemicals, derivatives, and specialty chemicals.

The company's property development arm, KLK Land, is involved in the development of residential, commercial, and industrial properties in Malaysia. KLK also has a retail division that operates under the brand name Crabtree & Evelyn.
