Marriage Equality[edit | edit source]

Same-sex marriage has been legal in Washington since December 6, 2012, following the passage of Referendum 74. This made Washington one of the first states to legalize same-sex marriage by popular vote.

LGBT individuals and couples in Washington have the same rights to adopt children as heterosexual individuals and couples. The state allows for joint adoption and second-parent adoption, ensuring that both partners in a same-sex relationship can be recognized as legal parents.
