Lacons Brewery
Lacons Brewery is a historic brewery located in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. Established in 1760, it became one of the most prominent breweries in the region before its closure in 1968. The brewery was revived in 2013, continuing its legacy of producing traditional and contemporary beers.
History[edit | edit source]
Lacons Brewery was founded by William Lacon in 1760. The brewery quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality ales and expanded its operations throughout the 19th century. By the early 20th century, Lacons had become a significant player in the British brewing industry, with a wide distribution network.
Expansion and Growth[edit | edit source]
During the 19th century, Lacons Brewery expanded its facilities and increased its production capacity. The brewery's success was attributed to its innovative brewing techniques and the quality of its ingredients. Closure[edit | edit source]
In 1965, Lacons Brewery was acquired by Whitbread, one of the largest brewing companies in the UK. Despite the initial promise of continued operations, the brewery was closed in 1968, and its iconic recipes were lost.
Revival[edit | edit source]
In 2013, Lacons Brewery was revived by a group of beer enthusiasts who aimed to restore the brewery's heritage. The new Lacons Brewery operates from a modern facility in Great Yarmouth and produces a range of traditional and contemporary beers. The revival has been well-received, with Lacons beers winning several awards.
