Land management

Land Management is the process of managing the use and development (in both urban and rural settings) of land resources. Land resources are used for a variety of purposes which may include organic agriculture, reforestation, water resource management and eco-tourism projects.

Overview

Land Management involves a wide range of aspects such as land reform, land use, land tenure, and land ownership. It includes management of both the natural resources and the physical resources present on the land. The main goal of land management is to ensure the sustainable and productive use of land resources.

Land Reform

Land reform is a broad term that refers to the changing of laws, regulations or customs related to land ownership. It may consist of government-initiated or government-backed property redistribution, generally of agricultural land. Land reform can, therefore, refer to transfer of ownership from the more powerful to the less powerful.

Land Use

Land use involves the management and modification of natural environment or wilderness into built environment such as fields, pastures, and settlements. It has also been defined as "the arrangements, activities and inputs people undertake in a certain land cover type to produce, change or maintain it".

Land Tenure

Land tenure is the legal regime in which land is owned by an individual, who is said to "hold" the land. It determines who can use land, for how long and under what conditions. Tenure may be based both on official laws and policies, and on informal customs.

Land Ownership

Land ownership is the state of exclusive rights over a piece of land. It may be held by a single individual, a group of people, or by a legal entity such as a corporation or government. Land ownership can be a sensitive issue due to its importance in economic, political and social contexts.
