Las Vegas is the most populous city in the state of Nevada, United States. Known for its vibrant nightlife, 24-hour casinos, and other entertainment options, Las Vegas is a major resort city and a global leader in the hospitality industry.

Las Vegas was founded as a city in 1905, when 110 acres of land adjacent to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks were auctioned. The city was incorporated in 1911, and it developed into a major stopover for pioneers traveling west. The city's tolerance for various forms of adult entertainment earned it the title of "Sin City".

Las Vegas is situated within Clark County in a basin on the floor of the Mojave Desert. The city is surrounded by mountain ranges on all sides. Much of the landscape is rocky and arid, with desert vegetation and wildlife.

The economy of Las Vegas is primarily driven by tourism, gaming, and conventions. The city's numerous mega casino-hotels and associated activities also draw over 39 million visitors each year. Las Vegas annually ranks as one of the world's most visited tourist destinations.

Las Vegas is served by McCarran International Airport and the North Las Vegas Airport. The city is also home to the Las Vegas Monorail and the Las Vegas Strip Trolley.
