Latimer County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Its county seat is Wilburton. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,154. The county was created at statehood in 1907 and named for James L. Latimer, a delegate from Wilburton to the 1906 state Constitutional Convention.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Latimer County is located in the Ouachita Mountain Range of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The county is drained by the Sans Bois, Buffalo, and Fourche Maline Creeks, which are tributaries of the Poteau and Kiamichi Rivers.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 11,154 people, 4,310 households, and 3,014 families residing in the county. The racial makeup of the county was 77.3% White, 2.4% Black or African American, 12.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.8% from other races, and 6.5% from two or more races. 2.7% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
