Established in 1835, the county is named after Lieutenant Colonel James Lauderdale, who was killed in the War of 1812. Lauderdale County is part of the Dyersburg, TN Micropolitan Statistical Area, which also includes Dyer County. The county seat is Ripley, and other notable communities within the county include Halls and Henning.
