Leaps and Bounds was a chain of indoor playplaces owned and operated by McDonald's Corporation. These playplaces were designed to provide a fun and safe environment for children to play while their families enjoyed meals at McDonald's restaurants.

History[edit | edit source]

Leaps and Bounds was launched in 1991 as part of McDonald's strategy to enhance the family dining experience. The concept was to create a dedicated play area that would attract families with young children, offering a unique combination of dining and entertainment.

In 1999, McDonald's decided to merge Leaps and Bounds with another playplace concept, Discovery Zone, which they had acquired. This merger was part of a broader strategy to consolidate their entertainment offerings under a single brand.

By 2003, the Leaps and Bounds brand was phased out as McDonald's shifted focus to integrating play areas directly into their restaurant locations, leading to the development of the PlayPlace concept that is commonly found in McDonald's restaurants today.

Features[edit | edit source]

Leaps and Bounds playplaces featured a variety of attractions designed to engage children of different ages. These included:

The facilities were designed with safety in mind, incorporating soft surfaces and padded equipment to minimize the risk of injury.

Impact[edit | edit source]

Leaps and Bounds played a significant role in shaping the family-friendly image of McDonald's during the 1990s. By providing a dedicated space for children to play, McDonald's was able to attract more families and increase customer satisfaction.

The concept also influenced the design of future McDonald's PlayPlaces, which continue to be a popular feature in many locations worldwide.
