Leonard Abrahamson
Leonard Abrahamson (born 30 November 1966) is an Irish film and television director. He is best known for his work on the films Adam & Paul (2004), Garage (2007), What Richard Did (2012), Frank (2014), and Room (2015). Abrahamson has received critical acclaim for his distinctive style and his ability to elicit strong performances from his actors.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Leonard Abrahamson was born in Dublin, Ireland. He attended Trinity College Dublin, where he studied philosophy. During his time at Trinity, he became involved in student filmmaking and directed several short films.
Career[edit | edit source]
Abrahamson's career began with the short film 3 Joes in 1991, which won a number of awards and established him as a promising new talent in Irish cinema. His first feature film, Adam & Paul, was released in 2004 and received widespread acclaim for its poignant portrayal of two heroin addicts in Dublin.
In 2007, Abrahamson directed Garage, which won the CICAE Art and Essai Cinema Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. His next film, What Richard Did, was released in 2012 and is based on the novel Bad Day in Blackrock by Kevin Power.
In 2014, Abrahamson directed Frank, a comedy-drama inspired by the life of musician Chris Sievey and his persona Frank Sidebottom. The film starred Michael Fassbender, Domhnall Gleeson, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Abrahamson's most notable work to date is Room, released in 2015. The film, based on the novel by Emma Donoghue, received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Director for Abrahamson. Brie Larson won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film.

Leonard Abrahamson is married and has children. He continues to live and work in Dublin.
