Leslie Lewis Dan (born 1931) is a Canadian businessman and philanthropist, known for his significant contributions to the pharmaceutical industry and his philanthropic efforts in education and healthcare.

Leslie Dan was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1931. He immigrated to Canada in 1947, following the upheaval of World War II. Dan pursued higher education at the University of Toronto, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. He later obtained a Master of Business Administration from the Rotman School of Management.

Career[edit | edit source]

Dan began his career in the pharmaceutical industry by founding Novopharm, a generic drug manufacturing company, in 1965. Under his leadership, Novopharm grew to become one of the largest generic drug manufacturers in Canada. The company was known for its innovation in producing affordable medications, which significantly impacted the accessibility of pharmaceuticals in Canada and beyond.

In 2000, Novopharm was sold to Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, a global leader in generic pharmaceuticals. Following the sale, Dan continued to be involved in the industry through various roles and investments.
