Linganore AVA
Linganore AVA is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in Frederick County, Maryland. The region was officially recognized as an AVA in 1983, making it one of the oldest AVAs in the state of Maryland. The Linganore AVA is named after the Linganore Creek, a tributary of the Monocacy River, which flows through the region.
Geography and Climate[edit | edit source]
The Linganore AVA is located in the Piedmont region of Maryland, a plateau between the coastal plain and the Appalachian Mountains. The region is characterized by its rolling hills and fertile soil, which is primarily composed of loam and clay. The climate in the Linganore AVA is classified as humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and mild to cool winters. The region's climate, combined with its fertile soil, makes it ideal for viticulture.
Viticulture[edit | edit source]
The Linganore AVA is home to several wineries, including the Linganore Winecellars, one of the largest wineries in Maryland. The region is known for producing a variety of wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Vidal blanc. The Linganore AVA's unique climate and soil conditions contribute to the distinct flavors and characteristics of the wines produced in the region.
Tourism[edit | edit source]
The Linganore AVA is a popular destination for wine tourism in Maryland. Many of the wineries in the region offer wine tastings and tours, and several annual wine festivals are held in the region, including the Linganore Wine Festival.
