The Indiana state park system was established in 1916, coinciding with the state's centennial celebration. The first state park, McCormick's Creek State Park, was dedicated on July 4, 1916. The system has since grown to include over 30 parks, each offering unique natural and cultural experiences.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is responsible for the management and maintenance of the state parks. The DNR works to preserve the natural resources and provide recreational opportunities for the public.
