List of VDQS wines

VDQS Wines is a classification for French wines, standing for Vins Délimités de Qualité Supérieure. This classification is the second highest in the French wine classification system, just below AOC and above Vin de pays. The VDQS classification was established in 1949 and was abolished in 2011, with all VDQS wines being upgraded to AOC status.

The VDQS classification was established in 1949 as a way to recognize wines that were of higher quality than Vin de pays, but not quite at the level of AOC. The classification was seen as a stepping stone for wine regions to eventually achieve AOC status. In 2011, the VDQS classification was abolished and all VDQS wines were upgraded to AOC status.

Classification Criteria[edit | edit source]

To qualify for the VDQS classification, wines had to meet certain criteria. These included specific geographical boundaries, grape varieties, and winemaking practices. The wines also had to pass a taste test conducted by a panel of experts.
