- Homer - Ancient Greek poet traditionally said to be the author of the epic poems, the Iliad and the Odyssey. Though historical evidence is inconclusive, Homer has often been portrayed as blind.
- John Milton - A 17th-century English poet and intellectual, known for his epic poem Paradise Lost. Milton lost his sight in middle age but continued to write, dictating his works to scribes.
Musicians and Composers[edit | edit source]
- Ludwig van Beethoven - Although more commonly known for his deafness, Beethoven also struggled with his vision, particularly in his later years. His ability to compose despite his impairments remains a testament to his enduring genius.
- Stevie Wonder - An American singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer, who became blind shortly after birth. Wonder is considered one of the most successful musical performers of the late 20th century.
- Ray Charles - An American singer, songwriter, pianist, and composer, who lost his sight at the age of seven. Charles was a pioneer in the genre of soul music during the 1950s.

- Louis Braille - A French educator and inventor of the Braille system, a worldwide system used by blind and visually impaired people for reading and writing. Braille became blind after a childhood accident.

- Trischa Zorn - The most decorated Paralympian in history, an American swimmer who is blind. Zorn has won a total of 55 medals, 41 of which are gold.

- Jorge Luis Borges - An Argentine short-story writer, essayist, poet, and translator who became completely blind by the age of 55. Despite his blindness, Borges continued to write, producing a significant portion of his literary output after losing his sight.

- Surdas - A 16th-century blind saint, poet, and musician known for his devotional songs dedicated to Lord Krishna. Surdas' works are considered a gem in Hindu literature.
