List of Members of the National Academy of Sciences (Immunology)
The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is an American nonprofit organization. NAS members are elected by their peers for outstanding contributions to research. The Immunology section of the NAS includes scientists who have made significant contributions to the understanding of the immune system. This list includes notable members within the field of Immunology.

- Bruce Beutler - Known for his discoveries concerning the activation of innate immunity.
- Ralph M. Steinman - Awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of the dendritic cell and its role in adaptive immunity.
- Anthony Fauci - Recognized for his contributions to HIV/AIDS research and his role as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
- Tasuku Honjo - Awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of the protein PD-1 and its role in inhibiting immune responses.
- Peter C. Doherty - Shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on the specificity of the cell-mediated immune defense.
- James P. Allison - Awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation.
Contributions to Immunology[edit | edit source]
Members of the NAS in the field of Immunology have contributed to various areas including, but not limited to, the understanding of how the immune system fights infection and cancer, the development of vaccines, and the discovery of novel immune cells and pathways. Their research has been pivotal in advancing the field of Immunology, leading to new therapeutic approaches for a variety of diseases.
