List of specialized agencies of the United Nations
Specialized agencies of the United Nations are autonomous organizations working with the United Nations (UN) and each other through the coordinating machinery of the Economic and Social Council at the intergovernmental level, and through the Chief Executives Board for coordination (CEB) at the inter-secretariat level. These agencies are independent international organizations funded by both voluntary and assessed contributions from their member states and are tasked with various responsibilities, ranging from health and education to agriculture and finance. The specialized agencies are designed to address the economic, social, cultural, educational, health, and related fields.

The following is a list of the specialized agencies affiliated with the United Nations:
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)[edit | edit source]
The FAO leads international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and food security. Its mandate is to raise levels of nutrition, improve agricultural productivity, better the lives of rural populations, and contribute to the growth of the world economy.
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)[edit | edit source]
The ICAO works to ensure safe, secure, efficient, and environmentally responsible international civil aviation. It sets standards and regulations necessary for aviation safety, security, efficiency, and regularity, as well as for aviation environmental protection.
International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)[edit | edit source]
IFAD focuses on rural poverty reduction, working with poor rural populations in developing countries to eliminate poverty, hunger, and malnutrition; to increase the productivity and incomes; and to improve the quality of their lives.
International Labour Organization (ILO)[edit | edit source]
The ILO is devoted to promoting social justice and internationally recognized human and labor rights, pursuing its founding mission that labor peace is essential to prosperity. It aims to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection, and strengthen dialogue on work-related issues.
International Maritime Organization (IMO)[edit | edit source]
The IMO is responsible for regulating shipping. It develops and maintains a comprehensive regulatory framework for shipping, including safety, environmental concerns, legal matters, technical cooperation, maritime security, and the efficiency of shipping.
International Monetary Fund (IMF)[edit | edit source]
The IMF oversees the international monetary system's stability, offers advice and funding to help countries facing balance of payments problems, and works to reduce global poverty.
International Telecommunication Union (ITU)[edit | edit source]
The ITU allocates global radio spectrum and satellite orbits, develops the technical standards that ensure networks and technologies seamlessly interconnect, and strives to improve access to ICTs to underserved communities worldwide.
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)[edit | edit source]
UNESCO aims to build peace through international cooperation in Education, the Sciences, and Culture. Its programs contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals defined in Agenda 2030, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015.
United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)[edit | edit source]
UNIDO promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability. The primary objective is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development in member states.
World Bank Group[edit | edit source]
The World Bank Group is a family of five international organizations that make leveraged loans to developing countries. It is the largest and most well-known development bank in the world and is an observer at the United Nations Development Group.
World Health Organization (WHO)[edit | edit source]
The WHO is responsible for international public health. It is committed to achieving better health for everyone, everywhere, by leading global efforts to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious diseases and by promoting the well-being of all people.
World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)[edit | edit source]
WIPO is a global forum for intellectual property (IP) services, policy, information, and cooperation. It is a self-funding agency of the United Nations, with a mission to lead the development of a balanced and effective international IP system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all.
World Meteorological Organization (WMO)[edit | edit source]
The WMO is an intergovernmental organization with a membership of 191 Member States and Territories. It provides world leadership and expertise in international cooperation in the delivery and use of high-quality, authoritative weather, climate, hydrological, and related environmental services by its members, for the improvement of the well-being of societies of all nations.
